The Poetry Haters, an acoustic duo, have been playing subdued, yet powerful
emo/folk in the dorms of MTU for some time now. The pair now finds it
necessary to branch out into the real world to spread their interesting
blend folk, emo, and indie rock. Combining the lyrical and instrumental
powers of Matthew Manninen and myself, Jacob Posega, The Poetry Haters songs
range from Bright Eyes'esque emo-folk, modern indie rock, bluegrass riffs,
and rocking guitar solos. The stripped down instrumentation is more raw than
our previous project, progressive metal band Annie Feed Water, featuring
dual guitars, vocals, and the occassional mandolin.
We occassionally go by stage names, and may choose to wear unusual costumes
on stage, cuz let's face it... two guys playing guitars just isn't that
interesting to look at. We'll play for peanuts, even just shells. We charge
nothing. We're really just looking to get ourselves out there and start
playing for actual audiences. We've got enough tunes for an hour set or
more, depending on how long we jam out on a solo, or how nervous we get and
start bantering about odd topics.
We'd also love to collaborate with other local musicians. If you play
anything: violin, guitar, mandolin, sing, hand drums, whatever, you can let
us know.
If you're interested in having us play at your venue, please contact me at
