Come and enjoy an evening of French-Canadian music and dance on Thursday, August 31 at 7:00 p.m. at the Chassell Heritage Center. The program will include traditional folk songs with plenty of opportunities to sing along, French Canadian fiddle tunes for listening and dancing, and a lesson in French Canadian folk dancing.
Song leaders & vocal soloists include Dave Bezotte, Evan Dixon, Marcia Goodrich, Barbara Lide, Barry Pegg, Wellesley Pereira, Leroy Steinbacher, Helen Fortin Valentyik, Jan Wieber, and Mary Younk, with an additional group of singers preparing to help the audience sing along on the “chansons à répondre”, or “response songs".
Several of the singers will also play music for dancing, joining Adam Durant, Oren Tikkanen, Deb McDowell, David Owens, Kelly Suvanto, and Patrick Younk, to treat you to the sounds of button and piano accordion, fiddle, guitar, piano, mandolin, banjo, and spoons.
Folk dances will be taught by Deb McDowell & Kateryna Lapina, and Quebec native Helen Fortin Valentyik will teach the rhythmic foot tapping often heard in French Canadian dance music.
The Chassell Heritage Center, 42373 North Hancock Street, is located one block west of US 41 on the corner of Second & Hancock Streets in Chassell.
