Good Times Music will be offering a free Rhythm Guitar Workshop with
Mike Irish on Friday, August 18th at 7:00p.m.
Regardless of how many "hot lead licks" or solos that we know,
guitarists spend 85-90% of our time playing Rhythm Guitar! But, very
little (by comparison) has been written, recorded, or demonstrated on
how to play Rhythm Guitar. This workshop will present basic techniques
and patterns for playing Rhythm Guitar in the following styles:
1. Traditional Flatpicking (for
Country, Bluegrass, Celtic, Folk)
2. Acoustic Fingerpicking (for Folk,
Country)
3. Blues (traditional & electric)
4. Rock (early Rock 'n Roll through
modern)
Everybody will get handouts with each example in TAB and traditional
notation plus a chord sheet for each style. All of these examples are
PRACTICAL and can be immediately applied to the appropriate styles.
They Work!
Everyone is encouraged to bring a guitar and play along or you can just
watch, soak it in and take the sheets and practice at home. The
important thing is to get the information.
Mike Irish will demonstrate the Rhythm Guitar examples and then Bob
Hiltunen will join in and provide the lead lines to the examples.
A little BIO: Mike Irish has spent the last 39 years mostly as a
professional Rhythm Guitarists playing in almost every commercial style
imaginable (except Klezmer, but that is coming up). He got the "itch"
for the neat chords and rhythm accompaniment patterns in 1964 and has
been scratching it ever since.
Hope you can make it!
